Schools help make vibrant communities and in keeping with their National Property Strategy, the Ministry of Education (MOE) worked closely with Woolston Primary School and The Building Intelligence Group as Project Mangers to create five new inspiring learning environments to meet roll growth in this popular suburb in Christchurch.
TBIG was engaged by MOE in late June 2013 to provide full project management services through to project completion. The design embodied Modern Learning Environment (MLE) design requirements which include the provision of open plan spaces that flow into each other, the creation of alternative learning possibilities for pupil and teachers and a dynamic streetscape integrating the school more into the community.
TBIG worked closely with the Ministry of Education, Board of Trustees and the community to ensure that all stakeholders were fully engaged and shared the same vision. Success factors lay with developing clear project governance and a clear methodology for project execution and lines of communication.
The targeted January 2014 deadline was successfully met in readiness to greet incoming students and teachers. The flexibility and vibrancy offered by the five new teaching spaces has been positively welcomed by Woolston Primary School.
