The refit of the fourth floor of Building 25 at Tauranga Hospital to create a new paediatric ward was the last phase of multi-million dollar Project Leo by the Bay of Plenty District Health Board.
The Building Intelligence Group Tauranga project managed the redevelopment and worked with a dedicated team to ensure that the project was delivered on time and on budget. The work was completed whilst Building 25 remained operational and without any disruption to ongoing clinical service delivery.
The new ward is equipped with 22 beds with on-suite facilities, four swing beds, and four child assessment beds, whanua room and playrooms and two specialist isolation rooms.
At the official opening, Children’s Commissioner Dr Russell Wills said “the ward represents best practice and is exactly the kind of innovation we’re looking for in this region.” “It will be of tremendous benefit for families in this region.”
