Building information modelling helps Resource Teacher Learning Behaviour (RTLB ) visualise their new home.
Coming together as one in a central Tauranga office is a game changer for the Resource Teacher Learning Behaviour Cluster, previously scattered over 11 schools. This group of 35 dedicated people who support students with challenges in learning and behaviour has generously been hosted wherever a school could make even the smallest space available.
“The vision to centralise was essential to our future and the service RTLB provides” says RTLB Cluster Manager Marie Peterson. “Collaboration was difficult, it was hard to find venues to bring teams together and office resources and assessment tools were duplicated.” In June 2014, The Building Intelligence Group was engaged by the MOE to fast track the redevelopment of an ex Work and Income building in Chadwick Road in Tauranga.
The Building Intelligence Group Tauranga partnered with Architects Wingate + Farquhar and began interpreting RTLB’s brief to create a place of work which would provide seamless collaboration, flexible working spaces, room for growth and a centre of vibrancy for a team coming together for the first time.
Business Information Modelling 3D visuals were used to show how spaces would work. Principal for Te Akau Ki Papamoa Primary School Bruce Jepsen comments “BIM proved to be a great enabler in showing us how spaces would work before being built. The 3D visuals gave us all a shared perspective and allowed us to match our RTLB service to the development of a purpose built space using visuals. This made decisions easier and achieved greater clarity as the visuals gave us a reliable basis to work from. BIM enabled us to explore options an encouraged quality communication between all parties.”
RTLB’s new home opened on 2 April 2015. Cluster Manager Marie Peterson comments “The building has far exceeded our expectations and staff really feel valued.” “TBIG and the wider project team interpreted our vision and have produced a purpose-built space that is the first of its kind for any RTLB service nationally.”
