Inland Revenue brings 1750 staff together into one location

At 25,000m2 this is the biggest office fitout that Wellington has ever seen, yet it’s far from the most expensive.

The project comprised the fitout of 25,000m² open plan style office accommodation for Inland Revenue over nine floors of the new multi storey Asteron Centre office building, consolidating staff from 11 separate premises. The overall project also involved the fitout of five ‘temporary’ premises to provide additional interim accommodation during the construction of the new premises.

This was a large project with a life cycle of five years. The client experienced three changes in management personnel over this time, and it was critical for us as the project manager to maintain continuity of resource throughout the project life cycle.

The Building Intelligence Group maintained a consistent single point of contact for the entire project, providing significant benefit to the client via an in-depth knowledge of all stages of the project and the sub-projects.

The fitout was completed one month earlier than originally programmed and a full two months earlier than Inland Revenues’ proposed move in date. Agreeing key milestones, integration with the base build and risk mitigation methods provided maximum certainty for the project’s delivery.

Environmental objectives were considered at all stages of the project. The fitout was awarded 4 green stars and was the first Government fitout to be accredited under the NZ Green Building Council office design tool.

At 25,000m2 this is the biggest office fitout in Wellington, yet far from the most expensive. It is an excellent demonstration of how a large scale cost effective quality working environment can be achieved and  set a new benchmark in ‘fit for purpose’ Government sector office accommodation.
