At the end of 2016, Inland Revenue and Housing New Zealand relocated to a brand-new building at 306 Cameron Road, one of Tauranga’s busiest arterial routes. The four storey building, developed by Manor Group TGA in conjunction with Watts Group Investments, is one of several new projects that aim to regenerate Tauranga’s central business district.
The attraction of a central location, large floor plates and the opportunity to derive benefits from co-location was attractive to Inland Revenue and Housing New Zealand, who combined, have a staff of 270. With a blank canvas on which to create a modern working environment, Inland Revenue and Housing New Zealand had a shared vision to achieve a contemporary and collaborative workplace.
The Building Intelligence Group’s role commenced with assisting in the delivery aspects of the Development Agreement (DA), progressing through management of the design, procurement, construction and relocation. A strategy of integrating the fitout works with the Landlord’s programme of works was vital to achieving the programme. A total team approach embracing ourselves, our clients, Pelorous Architecture, Aurecon and Watts & Hughes Construction proved effective.”
Brent Thomson, Business Manager for The Building Intelligence Group undertook Project Director leadership on the project. Brent comments “Our relationship as a trusted advisor in the project management space has been built on many years, working with Inland Revenue on multiple projects around New Zealand. We understand their vision and business drivers and how to translate those drivers into real outcomes.”
Having settled into their new premises, the collocation is working well and efficiencies created by shared spaces are proving valuable. Importantly, each Department has maintained its separate identity and lines of security.
The Ground Floor operates as the front of house for customer enquiries, complete with secure public meeting rooms and office area to provide service to customers. The first floor provides Inland Revenue with a back of house reception for deliveries, open plan office space, and shared meeting and cafeteria spaces for both Inland Revenue and Housing New Zealand.
The second floor provides further meeting rooms and open plan office space for Inland Revenue’s staff, including tea points, training rooms and breakout spaces. The floor to ceiling glass on both the first and second floors provides views over Tauranga City towards Mount Manganui.
The Building Intelligence Group is currently working with Inland Revenue on the delivery their new accommodation facilities in Hamilton comprising approximately 5000m2 of new commercial office space.
