The vision for Hutt International Boys’ School new Arts block embodied a ‘feature’ building with inspiring and innovative learning environments and a gallery to celebrate student’s work.
Hutt International Boys’ School (HIBS) vision of ‘building a future’ saw the consolidation of their masterplan expressed through the delivery of the two new blocks for the Maths, Humanities and Commerce departments in 2015.
This award-winning project delivered by The Building Intelligence Group Christchurch, was an impetus for HIBS moving into an enhancement phase to bring students the very best in learning environments.
The new Arts Block is comprised of Junior and Senior arts studios, Senior DVC Graphics, IT/Study space, Dark Room and White Room, Teaching Resource area and an Artist-in-Residence space. In addition to the Arts Block, the existing English, Library, and ICT environments were redeveloped to provide modernised learning environments.
The Building Intelligence Group Christchurch role included end to end control from design management, to procurement, programme, consents, construction management and stakeholder management. It was essential to ensure Health and Safety was paramount, working in a live school environment.
Principal Mike Hutchins comments “TBIG showed cool, calm professionalism and delivered the outcomes expected. A constant flow of good information enabled the school to be engaged with the construction process and kept up to speed with challenges and decision making.”
The Arts Block opened in May 2017, followed by the English, Library and ICT in August 2017.
