Arvida embarked on an exciting vision to create a flagship retirement village facility in the heart of Christchurch.
Arvida is one of the larger operators of retirement village and aged care facilities in New Zealand with 29 retirement villages throughout the country. Arvida’s vision for the Living Well Park Lane apartments was to create a new 9080m2 facility over two stages on the site adjacent to the current Rest Home facility at 35 Whiteleigh Avenue, in Addington. The Building Intelligence Group was appointed as project manager to provide end to end project management services.
The Living Well Park Lane development is an exemplar ‘blueprint’ for Arvida’s future villages. The four-storey tiered apartment block completed in Stage 1 contains 29 apartments. TBIG’s scope of service included management of design, programme, procurement, consents and construction management.
Jonathan Ash, General Manager Development / Arvida Group comments, “TBIG assisted Arvida by providing a comprehensive design and project management service, including management of an intense Value Engineering process to bring the development back within budget when Stage 2 costs escalated significantly beyond those achieved for Stage 1.”
To create a premium living environment, the apartments are rich in the use of Cross Laminated Timber. CLT is at the forefront of building panel development in NZ, with CLT providing high structural suitability for load bearing construction. Walls, floors and ceilings are constructed in CLT.
Stage 1 was completed in July 2018. The successful outcome is testament to Arvida’s goal for a facility that surpasses anything in the market. Situated near the up and coming area of Tower Junction, Addington, Park Lane Retirement Village offers affordable luxury in a safe and secure environment. This is a retirement village where residents can retain their independence and have more time for the social and leisure activities they love.
