Creating a ‘Heartspace’ in the centre of the Ara Woolston Trades Campus required infrastructure works including roading, carparking and extensive landscaping.
Connectivity is an important component of Ara Institute of Canterbury’s Campus Master Plan which aims to create a more attractive and vibrant Woolston Trades Campus with innovative and flexible learning spaces.
The Building Intelligence Group was engaged by Ara as project managers to deliver the infrastructure works and landscaping requirements to support an access road through the southern campus buildings, additional carparking and the central new green Heartspace.
The works comprised a new access road, 2000m2 carparking, hard and soft landscaping, stormwater realignment, power/comms underground services, asbestos pipe removal and earthquake repairs to the extensive network of in ground stormwater pipework.
The new landscaping at the centre of the Woolston Campus, dubbed the ‘Heartspace’ opened in December 2017. The Heartspace features extensive landscaping, plantings, seating, decking and thoroughfares to the key buildings.
Dennis Taylor, Head of Trades comments: “The Heartspace has transformed the look and feel of the campus. Throughout the project, I felt well informed and I valued the input and clarity provided by the TBIG team”.
